How to Use Individual Oils
There are many plants that are ideal for the production of oil. Thus, there are a wide variety of fantastic tasting oils that are each perfect for different flavors. Which oil is suitable for which food and how can these oils be used? We will answer these questions here.
Pumpkin Seed Oil
Styrian Pumpkin Seed Oil is very appreciated in the kitchen, especially because of its nutty taste. However, it has a low smoke point, which is why it should not be used for frying or deep-frying. When the oil is heated, it creates an unpleasant odor and the valuable ingredients of the oil are lost. It can be heated up to 120 ° C before it loses its flavor.
Pumpkin seed oil is mainly used in cold dishes, although it is also used for refining or decorating warm or hot food. It also serves as a baking ingredient. The nutty flavor and green color can be used in many dishes.
Olive Oil
This oil has been used for cooking and frying in Mediterranean countries for a long time. Virgin olive oils are in fact relatively stable and can be heated to 180 ° C. Up to this temperature, virgin olive oil shows no significant chemical changes by the heat. Nevertheless, quality olive oil cannot be heated. This is because the oil loses its flavour and also part of its vitamins and healthy properties. This would be a waste of precious oil!
Otherwise, olive oil is very versatile. It refines salads, raw vegetables, marinades and dressings. You can use it with vegetables, meat and fish, steaming and stewing. Refined olive oil can even be used for frying.
Poppy Oil
This delicious edible oil is obtained by cold pressing poppy seeds. It has an intense nutty taste and is perfect for the refining of raw food dishes, salads and soups. Poppy seed oil should therefore not be heated above 170 ° C. So it is less suitable for cooking and baking. Through its typical poppy taste, it goes well with sweet desserts and pastries. It is also used in savoury and Asian dishes.
Poppy oil is available in three flavors: gray poppy seed oil has a delicate, mild flavor poppy. Blue poppy seed oil tastes distinctly of poppy seeds, and white poppy oil tastes slightly nutty.
Rapeseed/ Canola Oil
Rapeseed oil or canola oil is very versatile in the kitchen. The cold-pressed oil is used in cold dishes because its nutty flavor adds a special touch to salads, etc. It is not suitable, for hot meals or frying because the oil cannot tolerate high temperatures. Rapeseed oil has only 6 percent of saturated fats, which makes it very healthy.
