Ginger
Zingiber officinale
Ginger is used fresh, dried, powdered or ground. Ginger has a hot and spicy smell and a fruity, spicy and very aromatic flavor. Ginger is a typical Far Eastern spice and is often used for curries, stews, and lamb and fish dishes. In ground form, ginger seasons gingerbread, milk and fruit salads.
Origins:
The ginger plant is native to the tropics and has its origin most likely in Central or Southern Asia. Today, the largest growing areas are found in China, Japan, Indonesia, India, Australia and South America.
